Choosing the right setting for brand photos that sell

If you’re planning a brand shoot in London, the good news is you don’t need a huge studio, you just need to choose the right setting – a location that supports your story, helps you feel at ease, and builds trust with the people you want to work with.

A while back, I had the pleasure of capturing an art coach in her home studio. The setting was more than just a backdrop, it played an integral role in highlighting her creative process. It was packed with the stuff she uses every day, and it made the whole shoot feel personal and real.

Many clients worry about location selection, often overthinking it or defaulting to Pinterest-inspired spaces that, although beautiful, don’t add anything to their story.

My approach centres on authenticity and your personal connection to the space, and making photos that genuinely reflect who you are. We’re aiming to create a visual narrative that aligns with your brand, not perfection (which can actually make audiences switch off).

Take the art coach session. The studio was snug but abundant with character. The diffused daylight was amplified by the white walls, highlighting the beautiful artwork and creative clutter, illustrating the kind of story only she could tell.

And if your own space doesn’t quite work, hiring a location is always an option – there are loads of great homes and multi-purpose spaces listed on platforms like Scouty and Peerspace. This can be a great middle ground if you need more flexibility (indoor/outdoor space, room for a team, even space to include clients if needed).

Brand photo shoot locations: what matters most

If you’re searching for brand photo shoot locations in London, start with places that already fit how you work. The right setting helps you relax, makes the photos feel believable, and builds trust quickly.

Choose familiar spaces

Whether it’s your home office or a favourite spot in your city, familiarity breeds comfort. You’ll look and feel most like yourself when the surroundings align with your daily world.

Prioritise natural light

Aim for spaces with plenty of soft, natural light. North-facing windows are excellent, as they provide consistent lighting throughout the day without harsh shadows.

Keep it versatile

A location that offers various angles and backdrops will add depth to your photos. Make sure there’s enough room to manoeuvre and capture different perspectives.

Consider complementary tones

Neutral colours or ones that match your brand’s palette can elevate the series. If necessary, introduce props to adjust the setting to align with your brand’s aesthetics.

Don’t fear a little clutter

Remember, a camera sees only a slice of the scene. Minor rearrangements can transform any space into a photo-friendly environment without stripping it of its personality.

Choosing a location for your brand shoot is a creative decision. The right setting supports your story, makes the photos feel believable, and gives your audience a real sense of who you are and how you work. Ready to plan yours?

  • A co-working space you genuinely use
  • Your studio or workshop space with your tools around you
  • A calm café or local spot (ideally with permission and quieter timing)
  • A street/location near your neighbourhood that fits your vibe
  • A house or apartment rented from a platform like Scouty or Peerspace
